During the 2004 Cape Farewell expedition Alex Hartley began the work Nymark (Undiscovered Island), an artwork documenting the process of finding and naming a new island; an island only uncovered in recent years due to the retreating glaciers. The work is currently touring with the Cape Farewell: Art & Climate Change exhibition in collaboration with Barbican International Entreprises. The island will be transposed onto a floating platform, and brought to the UK via International Waters. Whilst outside national seas, the island will become nowhereisland and will declare itself a new micronation. The is an incredible project that I’ve been following for a few years. My friend Ben Jervey went on the Cape Farewell expedition a few years ago and he had an incredible trip. Very interesting stuff.
